Carberry and Area Community Foundation Year in Review

posted Jan 3, 2017, 8:15 AM by Kathy Carr
2016 has been a busy year for Carberry and Area Community Foundation.  This year marks the 20th Anniversary for CACF! A celebration was held at the annual Carberry Fair and Races, where the board invited past donors and board members to take part in a cake cutting ceremony. CACF was also fortunate to be able to take the stage with a full grandstand to talk about the past 20 years of CACF activity. During this event, CACF received a generous donation from the local Masonic Lodge.
This year, CACF said good-bye to long-time staff member Teresa McConnell and welcomed Brianna Renwick as the new Executive Director.
Brianna attended the Community Foundations of Manitoba Regional Meeting in Winnipeg in October. This event was hosted by The Winnipeg Foundation, and provided many networking opportunities in addition to the knowledge shared by the presenters.
The Foundation was thrilled to report in the fall that thanks to our generous donors, CACF was able to raise the maximum $50,000 for the Thomas Sill Foundation Challenge! For every $2 donated, the Thomas Sill Foundation contributed $1 to CACF. CACF received a $25,000 cheque from the Thomas Sill Foundation.
CACF took part in the 24 Hour Giving Challenge again this November. For one day only, donors were able to make an even bigger difference in the community. Donations made during a 24 hour period were stretched by a contribution from The Winnipeg Foundation. For every $5 given, The Winnipeg Foundation added $1. At the end of the challenge, CACF had received $5320.00 in donations. With the 20% stretch from The Winnipeg Foundation ($1064.00), the grand total raised for Carberry and Area that day was $6384.00!
The Foundation collaborated with R.J. Waugh School to initiate a Random Act of Kindness Day. More information can be found on our website about this inspirational day.
CACF partnered with the Carberry Health Action Committee to raise funds for an ultrasound machine for the Carberry Health Centre. Through this initiative, $10,900 was donated by the community! The driving force behind this fundraising effort was Mr. Earl Baron, a former CACF board member. CACF and the Health Action Committee would like to thank Earl for his commitment to raising these funds!
The proceeds from the Christmas Memory Tree of Lights campaign will be going to the Carberry Health Centre Ultrasound Fund this year.  A list of those remembered can be found in this newspaper on page 12.
CACF continued to celebrate their 20th Anniversary with creation of the 20th Anniversary Booster Club. CACF welcomed donations of any size to the unrestricted Community General Fund to honour the 20th anniversary. Donors will be recognized on the CACF website on the 20th Anniversary Booster Club page.
