Check out the new Evening Farmer’s Market

posted May 29, 2017, 10:03 AM by Kathy Carr
Our first evening farmer’s market of the season kicks off May 31. From 4 to 8 p.m. on  the last Wednesday of every month, local vendors, artisans, crafters, bakers and local businesses will gather at the end of main street to market their wares. As the season progresses, we will have fresh vegetables, preserves, pickles, baking, honey, crafts, and local entertainment.
This month we are excited to have local musician Shannon Downey performing. Shannon is a local musician, born and raised in Carberry, who has been involved with music her entire life. From a young age, her parents, Debbie and Lorne Sparrow, and extended family exposed Shannon to eclectic musical stylings from many different genres including rock, country, and blue grass. She started vocal lessons through the Carberry Arts Council at the age of 5, and continued with training and festival competitions until she was 17. It wasn’t until Shannon was in university that she dared to pick-up an acoustic guitar. And although she is adamant that her guitar playing is “not that great”, she is comfortable with the purpose it serves her – to play the accompanying music to her singing. Shannon continues to live in Carberry with her family, husband Shawn Downey and two children, Ethan and Jordan. She always finds time between family and work commitments to sit down with her guitar and work out a little tune. She continues to be amazed and humbled by the community’s support with her singing endeavours.
Each month we will spotlight a local organization that will receive a donation from the farmer’s market. Our organization for May's market is Service for Seniors who will be available to offer information about the activities at the Drop-In Centre.
Bring your lawn chair to relax under the trees while listening to music and catching up with neighbors after spending time shopping at our local vendor tables.
