A cheque in the amount of $95,000, one of the largest amounts raised to-date, was recently presented to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) at the annual McCain Clear Lake Golf Classic held at the scenic Riding Mountain National Park.  This was the 21st year that McCain has hosted the golf tournament, bringing the total amount raised for the charity to a remarkable $1.64 million.
160 golfers turned out for the event, many of whom have loyally attended every one of the 21 tournaments, which reflects the passion and commitment people have towards this important event, that supports families who need a home-away-from-home while their child is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
Wendy Galagan, CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba, expressed gratitude for the tremendous support McCain Foods Canada has provided to the local Manitoba Chapter and all Chapters all across Canada.  “It is our privilege and honour every day to support sick children and their families and today we are helping more families than ever before.  As we work to deliver our mission, McCain Foods stands beside us as a dedicated and generous supporter.  Thank you McCain Foods for your incredible support.”
Event Chairman, Leonard Birch, noted that “without the continued support and dedication of everyone involved – golfers and volunteers, special guests, major sponsors and supporters – the proceeds and success of the day would not be possible.”
After the great day of golfing and getting pictures taken with the one-and-only Ronald McDonald, everyone enjoyed a banquet at the Elkhorn Resort.  A large selection of prizes was handed out to the winning teams.  First place in the tournament went to the foursome of Mitch Kaminsky, Joe Lambert, Nadine Falk and Ryan McCullough who each won a 40” Smart TV for their achievement. Winning a 21” Self-propelled lawnmower for second place were Joel Baron, Brent McMillan, Kyle Turner and Keean McLaren.  Third place winners were Rob Roeland, Rick Wiebe, Shirley Gregorash and Ken Cameron who were delighted with their Bose Wireless Speaker systems.  A trip for two, sponsored by WestJet, was won by Jayson Fredette.
Diamond sponsors were BDI Canada, Cargill Value Added Meats Canada, McDonald's Restaurants of Manitoba, McCain Foods (Canada) and Norampac.
Coca-Cola and Manitoba Starch Products were Platinum sponsors while A&M Farm Ventures, Acklands Grainger, Brenntag, CDC, A division of Congebec, Inc., Cargill Inc.-Dressings, Sauces & Oil, HB Specialty Foods, Hood Packaging and Paul’s Hauling were Gold level sponsors.
This year’s Silver sponsors were ABCO Supply & Service, Adriaansen Farms, Ag World Support Systems, BMO-Bank of Montreal, Baron Farms, Cimco Refrigeration, East End Service, Falk Pharmacy, Gabler Welding, Ken Kane Aerial Spray, Quintex Services, Municipality of North Cypress-Langford & Town of Carberry, Randy & Kim Baron Farms, Ready Oxygen, Sandhills Electric & Mechanical, Scott Builders, Sons Bakery, Sperling Industries, Spud Plains Farms, Westburne Electric, Westrock and Wurtz Bros.
This event is the longest running donor-run event for RMHC in Canada, and continues to be one of their top fundraisers.
Plans are already underway for the 22nd Annual Clear Lake Golf Classic which will be held on June 13, 2017.
