Carberry is slowly healing and coming to grips with the tragic automobile accident that claimed the lives of three amazing members of our community.
On August 19, 2017 the Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report about a serious two vehicle collision at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 16. When they arrived on the scene, they learned that a minivan was travelling eastbound on the Trans-Canada and had attempted to make a left turn to head north on Highway 16 when it collided with a westbound semi truck.
There were five occupants in the minivan: a 35-year-old mother, 36-year-old father, and three children ages 13, 10 and eight. The father and 13-year-old son were pronounced deceased at the scene. The 10 year-old son and eight-year-old son, along with the mother were transported to the hospital, where the 10-year-old passed away. As of press time, the infomation we have is that the mother and eight-year-old are in critical, but stable, condition. The 62-year-old male semi driver from Ontario sustained minor injuries.
Accounts have been setup at the Westoba branch in Carberry and at the Bank of Montreal for the family, if you would like to make a donation to it, just stop in and see the clerks and they will be happy to help you.
It has been a sad week for sure for our tight knit town, and our hearts and condolences go out to the families involved, but as we all slowly come to terms with what has happened, we all know the support that we have to offer each other and to the families that were affected is invaluable.
