Farewell Peggy and Dennis, we’ll miss you!

December 31, 2017, the last day of the year, and a fitting time to say, “Good-bye”. Carberry United Church gathered on what was a bitterly cold day, to bid farewell to their minister, Peggy Reid and Dennis Single.
Peggy has taken a half-time position in Hillsborough, New Brunswick. This will bring her near to the place where she grew up and close to her mother.
Her stint at Carberry has exceeded 20 years, and the congregation celebrated what has been a busy and enjoyable time in the church, for  Peggy took the role of outreach seriously. If a need was noticed, an event or fundraising project often followed, sometimes just for the church, and sometimes for the community or even around the world. The couple were often seen filming events for the Access 12 channel, or sharing their musical gifts with others.
Following the morning service, a time of youth drama, song, well-wishing, and advice(!) was given, prior to being presented with a gift of a stained glass prairie scene and a book documenting their time here. This was followed by a potluck lunch and the cutting of a large cake. The congregation wished them God’s blessing as they travel to their new home in Riverview, NB.
The church is now in the process of looking for a new minister. In the meantime, the pulpit is being filled with both local people and others from nearby. The food bank will now be open on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00.
