Rink Opens, No Plainsmen This Seasons

The Carberry Rec Centre ice plant is up and running, thanks to project manager Bill Kalinowich, a power engineer, who converted the geothermal operation back to an ammonia operation. The arena is open for business on Monday, September 25. However, Leonard Birch, manager of the senior Plainsmen hockey team has advised that the team will not operate this season due to a lack of committed players.
The Plainsmen will ask for a one year leave absence from the Tiger Hills Hockey League at their fall meeting. The Plainsmen were in the Tiger Hills League finals and competed in the provincial senior AA tournament for the last two seasons.
Manager Birch extended thanks to Dustin, Blayne and Troy for their efforts to keep the Plainsmen operational. His announcement was difficult to make, as he had been a player, coach, or manager for more years than he cared to remember. The Plainsmen are in good shape financially and Leonard hoped the team would find a way.
